Houston Women's Caucus for Art Records 1978-1997

The National Women's Caucus for Art grew out of a discussion on gender at an art conference in San Francisco in 1972. The National Women's Conference in 1977 inspired women in Houston's artistic community to form their own chapter of the Women's Caucus for Art. The records consist of photographs, newsletters, grant applications, financial records, conference and art exhibition information.

The National Women's Caucus for Art is part of the College Art Association. An exhibition on Afro-American Women Artists was to be held in conjunction with CAA's Annual meeting, 1979. Emily Martin and Tritobia Benjamin were co-curators. The exhibition was cancelled due to lack of funding.
